Abu Zuhri denounces AI for demanding release of Shalit, ignoring Palestinians
[ 25/04/2010 - 04:44 PM ]
GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri strongly denounced Amnesty International (AI) for calling on its activists and supporters in the world to demand his Movement to release Shalit.
Spokesman Abu Zuhri told the PIC that this call bears out clearly that Amnesty is fully and blatantly biased in favor of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians and thus has no integrity at all.
The spokesman underlined that what is required is international intervention to save 8,000 Palestinian prisoners kidnapped from their homes and lands rather than appealing for the release of an Israeli soldier involved in killing civilians in Gaza.
For his part, Dr. Ismail Radwan, a Hamas leader, urged the AI to be more balanced and neutral and not to pursue double standards, adding that Israel was the only party that foiled the prisoners' exchange deal after retracting on agreements reached with the German mediator.
The Palestinian center for the defense of prisoners expressed astonishment in a statement on Sunday regarding the AI step, charging that the act indicated that Amnesty was politicizing its positions.
The AI should have rather defended the 8,000 Palestinian and Arab captives in Israeli jails who are deprived of their simplest rights guaranteed by international doctrines and norms, the center said, and called on Amnesty to visit the Israeli jails to witness for itself the conditions of those prisoners, who include children and sick detainees.
