Abul Ghait: We will not allow redrafting of Egyptian paper

[ 20/06/2010 - 10:03 AM ]

CAIRO, (PIC)-- Egyptian foreign minister Ahmed Abul Ghait has said that his country would not redraft its proposed inter-Palestinian reconciliation paper and that Hamas should sign it as is.

He added in a statement to journalists on Saturday that wrong media reports are published about this issue but Cairo's stand remains the same.

"We are not ready to allow any changes to the doctrine whether directly or indirectly through adding addendums," he elaborated.

The Egyptian chief diplomat called on Hamas to sign the paper similar to what Fatah had done and to discuss its remarks later with the Palestinian Authority.

Abul Ghait, who was speaking following a meeting between his president Hosni Mubarak and American envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell, was commenting on statements by Hamas officials that Egypt had accepted the movement's proposal of amending the document.
